THE JOSE MARIA ACADEMICIAN
Jose Maria Academy is an institution which fosters an integral education of its students and so attends to their intellectual, human, cultural, social, moral and character formation. This ensures that the student in an atmosphere of freedom and responsibility. He/she is thus prepared to take his/her place in the society, making their contribution through an honest livelihood means and competent professional activities. The close and constant participation of their parents/guardians in their education and school activities leaves a profound debt of gratitude in the student. They learn to appreciate the great value of self-giving in parenting.
They are also taught the value of hard work and time management. As such, they are encouraged to develop their own personality and strive to acquire their own virtues. All these sum up the Jose Maria Academician.
ORIENTATION OF STUDENTS
Every new set of students undergoes a three day orientation programme, beginning on the first day of resumption. This exercise is important as it help the student settle down quickly to work, and also gives them clear explanation of what is expected of them and the reasons for such expectations. We also use the period to introduce the school’s academic activities and give them training on effective studying
It is obligatory for every student to participate in the orientation programme as it prepares them to fit into Jose Maria Academy’s system quickly and with relative ease.
STUDENTS’ COUNCIL
This is an organ of participation of the student in the government of the school. It stimulate their sense of responsibility, companionship and spirit of service. It helps in achieving the educative objective of the school, fosters leadership and prepares them for leadership roles in the society in the future.
The student council is made up of eight (8) prefects Viz: head boy, head girl, sports prefect, library prefect, dinning prefect, social prefect, health & sanitation prefect. They are usually elected by open ballot. They will meet once a month under the supervision of the vice- principal or any other teacher appointed by her. The teacher or VP as the case may be, will only play an observatory role, giving the students enough room to air their views and opinions freely.
SCHOOL UNIFORM
- The school uniform is a symbol of unity of the school. It is our identifying mark and helps to promote the school’s external image. Students are expected to wear the appropriate uniform on all occasions.
- School uniforms are: White shirt/blue trousers for boys and blue skirt for girls with the school tie, black socks on black shoes- Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Sportswear (white t-shirt with school emblem on blue shorts with white socks and white canvas.
- The uniform should be thoroughly washed and properly ironed.
