At the core of our curricular activity is the social, moral, spiritual and psychological development of our scholars. Our academic work is guided by the curriculum as obtained from NERDC for secondary education in Nigeria. On this anchors classroom instructions especially towards accomplishing specific and general learning outcomes as well as prepping our scholars towards terminal assessments test and other standardized tests from examination councils and boards.
However, in addition to ‘bookish knowledge’ it is essential to help our scholars to enhance their internal and external personalities. This we achieve through our uniquely developed co-curricular and extra-curricular range of activities.
Let’s journey into our world of co-curricular activities;
In ICT professional studies, our scholars are trained on a variety of ICT programmes in other to develop skills in the areas covered in our training, develop a general passion for ICT and increase their proficiency in general usage of ICT tools and infrastructure. We do programmes such as coding, website design, computer hardware, computer networking, mobile App development, game App, animation, etc.
In cinematography, our scholars carry out photography, event planning and coverage, picture and video editing etc. Our movie and drama lounge is equipped for this.
In agronomics and livestock, they carry out planting of veggies, tubers or even grains. They breed birds, fishes, live stocks, snails etc. They tend and nurture gardens and plant trees. Our cottage farm facility is used for these.
Music plays a strong part of our school life at JMA. We offer professional tuition in piano, guitar and singing, individually and in groups, and encourage formal graded exams. The school choir rehearses each week where vocal techniques and extra repertoire is taught and members learn to sing in harmony. The students have use of a new, spacious and fully equipped studio and practice rooms for their lessons and rehearsals. They play instruments, lead band performances and Friday devotionals, use music recording softwares and interpret solfas and chords. Our music studio is equipped and used for this.
Drama: Drama is taught by a specialist teacher in the Seniors and is very popular. Through drama the students develop self confidence, presentation skills and teamwork. We give our students numerous opportunities to perform in front of small and large audiences for Music and/or Drama. These include the annual House drama competitions, school productions, Festival events and community performances. Parents are often invited to watch their children perform. As well as timetabled drama lessons and afterschool clubs, We stage annual productions and regularly use drama in our school assemblies. For music and drama, students have use of a spacious and fully equipped studio for their lessons and rehearsals.
In design technology, they carry out 3D architectural rendering, design and develop structural and electrical network plans, design basic electronics circuits and embedded systems, simulate and emulate systems as well as build and design simple domestic automated systems and basic circuitry etc. Our Design Technology Lab is used here.
